Desert Penguins Chess Club Features in The Telegraph

Congratulations to our Junior Chess club and the coach, Augustin Madan, on successful organisation of junior chess tournaments.

The latest event, the 5th Desert Penguins Junior Chess Championships took place on Sunday 5th February. 112 children from over 25 schools competed in 4 age groups: Boys Under 8, Boys Under 10, Boys Under 12 and a Separate girls section Girls Under 12.

Desert Penguins competitions are extremely popular amongst the young players and drew attention of The Telegraph newspaper. Their award winning photographer Jeff Gilbert attended the event and took photos of the children during the tournament.

Desert Penguins Junior Chess club holds weekly meetings on Mondays from 17.15 - 18.45 at Barnes Sports Club. Learn to play chess and take part in future editions of the Desert Penguins Junior Chess Championships which will take place in Spring.
