Tennis Finals Day 2019

Thrilling tennis, Strawberries & Cream, Pimms, home made cakes, elegantly dressed spectators. This must be Wimbledon surely. But no, this was Barnes and their Summer Tournament Finals Day held on Sunday 30th June - the perfect warm up for The Championships starting the following day.

In the Ladies doubles, last year's winner Louisa Platt partnered one of last year's losing finalists, Philippa Purser and overcame new pairing of Bernadette Graham and Kate Medhurst.

Perseverance finally paid off for the evergreen Clive Pinnington, who won his first Men's singles title after years of frustration at the hands of you know who! He beat off stiff resistance from Dominic Cox who bravely played through a painful ankle injury.

First time pairing of Bernadette Graham and Anthony Lock beat the holders Louisa Platt and Nader Sophoclis to win the mixed doubles title in a fiercely fought contest.

The day's final match provided a fitting finale to a great day of tennis, when Clive Pinnington and Pete Dickinson went up against Colin Ziegler and the Lazarus-like Dominic Cox in Men's Doubles. The crowd was treated to a match of very high standard and was gripped until the very last shot which saw Clive (second title of the day) & Pete overcome Colin & Dominic.

Well done to all the winners and commiserations to the runners up.
