Unstoppable Desert Penguins


2019 continues to be the breakthrough chess year for Desert Penguins.

Congratulations to our veteran penguin Saahil Bansal and our rising star Alex Royce on his sensational chess debut!

Saahil Bansal, at only 13 years of age, made his debut appearance in 4NCL (4 Nation Chess League) playing in division 2 which is equivalent of football Championship Division.

Saahil displayed fantastic chess defeating 1758 Fide Elo (134 ECF Grade) opponent and drew against 2046 Fide Elo or (176 ECF grade). With his sensational performance Saahil earned his place in the team for future league games.

Last weekend Alex Royce, at only 7 years of age, made his debut at junior County chess level. He played for Richmond Under 9 years old team in the East Zonal tournament of the English Primary Schools Chess Association (EPSCA). His team finished first and will now play in the U9 EPSCA Final in Nottingham. Alex, despite being only 7 years old, won 2 games and drew one game against 9 years old opponents, earning an Individual Gold Medal on top of the County zonal medal won with his team. Sensational performance from our rising Penguin Star!
