Sensational Performance for Desert Penguins Chess Club


We would like to congratulate our Penguins with sensational performance in London Junior Chess Finals Qualifying events.

Alex Royce played amazing chess and won two Under 8 years old Qualifier events in back to back weekends. In Hampton Qualifier Alex came tie for 1st place with 5 wins out of 6 game, but last weekend in Wey Valley he had another phenomenal tournament which he won with 100% result: 6 wins out of 6 games.

Laith Harb has already qualified in Under 8 years old finals and played a great event in KENT Grand Prix. He got 4 wins out of 6 games in U10 years old section. This amazing performance got him the qualification in U10 years old Minor London Finals. Amazing result for ONLY 7 year old boy!

Raphael Gaudin is the Autumn story for Desert Penguins. At his FIRST ever chess tournament at Hampton Qualifier he scored 4 wins out of 6 games and finished tie for 3rd place. This amazing performance got him the qualification for Under 8 years old London Finals. The achievement is truly incredible. Well Done Raphael!

Filippos Aktselis is another Desert Penguins fairy tale story. Filippos, only Year 2, played his first qualification event in Under 8 years old KENT Grand Prix and got 4 wins out of 6 games. With this brilliant performance he qualify for London Finals in Under 8 years old section despite being one year younger then most of the players.

Andrew Solopovas is a future star of our chess club. Despite being only 6 years old he already is showing great chess ability. In Hampton Qualifier Under 8 years old event Andrew scored 2 points, but last weekend in Wey Valley he improved his score to 2 wins and a draw out of 6 games. Its just a matter of time until Andrew will show great results.

Yad Rahman, who last Summer came tie for 4th place in Under 8 years old World Rapid Chess Championships in Minsk-Belarus finally is playing great chess again after a long sleep. Yad came tie for 3rd place in Hampton Qualifier with 4.5 points out of 6 and qualified for London Finals in Under 10 years old Major category. Yad also had a sensational performance at 66th Hampstead adults chess tournament in Under 1900 FIDE Elo section. He scored 2 wins and a draw out of 5 games with a sensational 1534 FIDE ELO. This is Yad we all know!

Devansh Srivastava played great chess at last KENT Grand Prix and scored 4.5 points out of 6 games. He came 4th place out of 51 players and qualified for U10 years old Major London Finals. Devansh will try to qualify for U12 years old finals at the coming qualifier events.

Andy Wang came tie for 3rd place in Hampton Qualifier Under 12 years old section. Andy scored 3.5 points out of 6 games and qualified for London Finals in Under 12 years old Minor category. Andy will try to qualify for Under 12 years old Major at the coming qualifier events.

Andrew MacLeod is one of the most experienced player of Desert Penguins. He came 2nd place at East Finchley Qualifier and with 5 wins out of 6 games qualified for Under 12 years old Major London Finals. Andrew recently has been crowned the Most Improved Player of 2017/2018 season by Hammersmith Adults chess club where he proved himself as a great player.
