Barnes Tidy Towpath Meeting

August 9, 2018

Barnes Tidy Towpath is a local group of activist concerned about the condition of our beautiful riverside. They run regular meetings to collect rubbish brought up to the foreshore by the tides or left by the walkers. Here's the message from the group:

We are contacting all our BTTG members as some of you may not be at work mid-week during the holidays and might just fancy getting outside.  Our next session will be Wednesday, 15 August  from 11am-1pm (yes, that is later than usual due to the tides), meeting on the towpath at the Hammersmith Bridge bench.  We will head towards Mortlake, covering the shady, wooded area which will probably yield considerable debris following five days of 6m+ high tides!  Please bring wellies and gloves.

If this will be your first time with us, please arrive 15 minutes early for the health & safety briefing.

Also, if you need to borrow equipment from us, please email in advance to ensure we have sufficient supplies.

Those of you who participated in the Port of London Authority's "Cleaner Thames" campaign filming with us in mid-July may be shocked to learn that just six days later during a spur-of-the-moment clean up at Small Profit Dock, three of us plucked 1000 plastic cups from the foreshore during two hours. We amassed a total of 17 bags that day and and additional four from the previous day. What a difference a tide makes!! What will we find 15 August!?!

We look forward to seeing you.

With best wishes,

Ann and Petra
